Thank you so much for your interest in joining our Board of Directors! We recognize that people who consider leadership volunteer roles have many choices, and we appreciate your interest in NCHS.
The Nicollet County Historical Society is a small, place-based organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Nicollet County through our collections, historic sites, and public programs. The Board of Directors plays an important role in ensuring the organization remains responsible, sustainable, and mission-focused.
Board service at NCHS centers on governance and oversight, not day-to-day operations. Board members help guide long-term direction, provide financial and fiduciary oversight, and support the Executive Director in carrying out the Society’s mission.
Board Information:
- This is a volunteer position
- Up to 15 individuals serve on the Board of Directors
- Board meetings are held monthly, typically on the fourth Monday
- Board members serve three-year terms
- Directors must be members of the Nicollet County Historical Society
- Commit approximately 2–4 hours per month
Board members are encouraged to serve as ambassadors for NCHS by sharing information about the organization and supporting its work within their networks. Opportunities for additional involvement beyond regular board meetings are discussed in advance and are always optional.

The application deadline is February 16, 2026.
Thank you again for your interest in our work and for taking the time to complete this application with thought and care. We look forward to reviewing it with that same thought and care and continuing our conversations. If you have questions, please contact the Board President at board@nchsmn.org or 507-934-2160.
