NCHS BOARD OF DIRECTORS CANDIDATE INFO

People in a room are engaged in a group activity, with some standing by the walls looking at posters. A table in the foreground holds papers, cups, and other materials. The room has chairs, paintings on the walls, and fluorescent lighting.

The Nicollet County Historical Society is a small, place-based organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Nicollet County through our collections, historic sites, and public programs. The Board of Directors plays an important role in ensuring the organization remains responsible, sustainable, and mission-focused.

Board service at NCHS centers on governance and oversight, not day-to-day operations. Board members help guide long-term direction, provide financial and fiduciary oversight, and support the Executive Director in carrying out the Society’s mission.

Board Information:

  • This is a volunteer position
  • Up to 15 individuals serve on the Board of Directors
  • Board meetings are held monthly, typically on the fourth Monday
  • Board members serve three-year terms
  • Directors must be members of the Nicollet County Historical Society
  • Commit approximately 2–4 hours per month

Board members are encouraged to serve as ambassadors for NCHS by sharing information about the organization and supporting its work within their networks. Opportunities for additional involvement beyond regular board meetings are discussed in advance and are always optional.

An older man and a young child build a structure with log-like pieces on a table covered in a red and white checkered cloth. The child holds a piece of wood above their head. The setting appears to be an indoor, rustic location.
